I'm trying to create basic shapes with Adobe photoshop but they keep coming out as outlines, what do I need do to make them solid or even perhaps fill them in?

When using predefined shapes like the rectangle or circle tool, make sure you have the Shape Layers button selected, and not Path. These buttons are located in the top bar, the first set of three buttons.

There's a really simple solution.

1.) Select the layer with your shape.
2.) Go up to Layer, then pick Rasterize, then pick Shape

That will turn the layer into pixels instead of a path.

Hope that solves your probelm.
