That depends on your budget. I have seen some PCs with 16GBs of RAM.

I have a HP crap top from 2009, 400gb hard drive (of which 90gb is left, mostly music) and 8gb of ram.

I have a decent 2010 Gateway with a 1TB HDD and 6GBs of RAM. The downside, a crappy Intel graphics card.
