I always wonder if these rides are toned down to become a "family" rollercoaster - or ride someone might go on to build themselves up to a bigger ride (To spread people around in different queues for rides). Does this serve as that per chance? Or is it just purely a bad ride?

It's just purely bad, it was originally built to mean and scary.
