So, I don't know how or why this happened, but now my computer is stuck on one power scheme, and it's pretty annoying because it's set to "turn off" the monitor after 2 minutes.

Every time I go to the power options, however, I get this:

Anyone know how this could happen?

Find an old IDE hard drive and then goto CompUSA and purchase a $20 external hard drive enclosure and voila, instant el-cheapo storage device.

Could very well be a peice of malware or a virus. That sounds like a clever little fun virus to me.

All's well that ends well. I happened to be upgrading my computer when this happened, so now since I'm using a new copy of XP, they're back. Hoorayyyyy Technology!

I'm going to do that soon. I want to keep all my music/videos/pictures on an external drive so I can take them with me.

i'm gonna agree with real on this one, anytime something like that happens at random its normally a sign of a nifty little bastard virus or trogan. There really isn't any other way you could randomly lose all your power options, run some virus programs, and do a full system scan (type in chkdsk on the run menu incase you didnt know) that normally does a good job of finding corrupt files and things that shouldnt be there.
