Megablast

by Buster · NoLimits Coaster · Mar 18th, 2004
Description
We proudly present Megablast.

Hansixx and me worked for 9 months on this project and finally we are done. The Track went through several stages, got tweaked numerous times until it was perfect in our eyes. Theming took a long time, but it paid out.
More than 1000 3DS-objects ensure a nice urban look. All objects have been optimzed for high fps. All objects were made with Object Creator.

On a Duron 1300 with GeForce 2 MX 64 fps stay above 23 at all times.

The Track in detail:
Track Length: 1.430,71m (4.693,88ft)
Trains: 5
Cars per Train: 6
Effective Height: 33.5m
Inversions: 7
Manufacturer: BHB (using Giovanola Track - not B&M as you might think)

Megablast is a typical travelling Coaster. Only that it is longer and meaner than any other known coaster.
Up to 5.6G make for an intense ride. If you have heartproblems, are pregnant or suffer from any other illness, you shouldn't ride this. Healthy persons will have no problem. Keep Arms inside Car at all times. No food and drinks allowed on ride. Loose items must be secured. Cams are allowed if they are safely tied to your hand.

All textures were created by Hansixx and me. Some are based on the photorealistic texture-pack and other sources.
The trees were initially made by rtgenxr.

Thanx have to go to:
Tia , this wouldn't have been possible without your tools and general help.
BBSpeed26, your idea for another twist was genius.
Bino Maus, you had the initial idea for this project.
All other testers for good input.

We hope you enjoy the ride.

Buster & Hansixx
----------------

PS: It's important that you ride this in the Megablast-environment. Otherwise you might have tree hits. If so, remove the two tress that stand inside the Coasterarea. Those trees were standing there and the city didn't allow removing them. ;) Also trees change size when Megablast is not the first coaster you ride in the Sim. So when you get tree hits, completely exit the sim, start up again and ride. Only this way the trees will have the correct size as I planned it.

PPS: Just for Comparison the max Gs on real life coasters and Megablast:
Thriller: 6.5g
Moonsault Scramble: 6.7g
Eurostar (travelling Inverter like Megablast): 5.2g
Megablast: 5.6g (last car last helix)

well, this was pretty good, It wasn't the most original thing I've seen, it looked a lot like Eurostar, except with a little more, and the technical was alright. There were some bumps in the track, they were slight, but still they were there, and I have to grade you down on sumthing just because, I have to. Also, a yellow g appeared in a place that it should never have anything above a green. It was in the inline roll. That was a no-no. Anyways I noticed a lot of stuff in the sim itself that I know you could not do with normal supports. LIke I thought I saw bolts on the yellow beam supports, also How did you do the lights???? That was really cool and junk. I wish I could make coasters like this, that would be really cool. And so this is probably one of the best coasters ever. It would make a good ride, even without the houses in the back.

I remember this coaster from my youth and still I rate this as one of the best coaster ever (real or virtual) the 3d work is incredible and felt extremely realistic
this coaster is full of original and ***y element expecially the oblique loops in the last part; I know that they reach almost 6 g and anyone would die. but i'll be happy to die that way!!! :)

Since it feels like I'm the only one who knows how to work this what you do is...
*** If you have XP you might not need to do this, If you have Vista or 7, you probably will. ***
1) Download the file on this site.
2) Download msvbvm50.dll from here - http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?msvbvm50 (EDIT: It might be zlib.dll you need from the same site, search it, try both)
3) Extract the .dll to the same folder as the .exe from this track.
4) Run the .exe, extract to a location of your choice ect.

^If that doesn't work, don't ask me about it. That's how I got it to work for me.

If the aplication doesn't work go the NL Media Center folder and copy and paist the zlib.ddl file into the folder with the aplication in it.

This is a very compact coaster. Very nice job on the track work and the 3ds supports.

I've seen the first pre-screens somewhere long ago and i knew that i was going to love this coaster.
I've downloaded it here and so here comes my far,far too late rate for Buster's Megablast:
Probably my most favorite coaster in Nolimits.
I love any kind of coaster, but this...this makes me want to create portable coasters myself, with many brakeruns and many trains which keep buzzing and flying by around you while you're doing exactly the same thing like in the purple intestines of Megablast. My only gripe is that the first brake comes too late and the trains are a bit too far apart for a real party.
There are some issues with smoothness and flow but i wouldn't have noticed most of these if others did not pointed them out at first.
Well, the adrenaline that Megablast offers cannot be described by fly-by's, very smooth hills and overbanked turns only.
The ride, as a whole, stays simply a Blast !
Look at the thing !See it ripping through it's supportbeams with dizzying speeds, trying to pass it's tunneltest with a big B&M train.
Megablast is hunting and seeking a way out of it's own layout and seeing nothing else but (with a little fantasy plz.:/)
cafe's,restaurants and flabbergasted town folk looking back at 'ya.
What do you do ?You dive right back in the structure!
And no matter how many times i ride Megablast, i always,ALWAYS forget it's layout, that's because i'm totally Megablasted, just like the town folk beneath me.
I'ts not only a blast to ride but a joy to behold from any angle just like the themeing.
Hansixx was obviously a fan of Midtown Madness and it shows.I can't create a small fuse box in Nolimits without getting the most powerful graphic cards to an emergency brake, Hansixx creates a complete city..nuff said. Those who think that a large ride placed like that in a city is unrealistic should visit the funfair in the Dutch town of Weert.
That's exactly how coasters & wild mice are placed there, filling up public squares and roads throughout the entire city.
Megablast oozes power non-stop.It should have been a Johnimo.

T: Very great smooth ride.. here's are the min points..
2 times 5,5+ vert. G's = -1 points
1 time 6+ vert G's = -1 points
Easy e-stop test = passed
Hard e-stop test = passed

A: Great flowing ride.. very extreme IMO. and i like extreme :)

O: Great to see a real carnival coaster that actualy is very realistic! great work.
The 3ds added allot to the ride so 1 extra point for here.. 8,5 + 1 = 9,5 points for originality

Here's a short comment:

Tech: WOW! It is in incredibly smooth and still the lay-out is that complex .. fantastic job!

Adr: The scenery, the lay-out, the speed, everything is marvellous and adds up to the excitement .. incredible!

Orig: Well, a lot of us know the Eurostar-coaster on the European fun fairs en this is one is just an extended one of it. I don't whether based it on that one, but however it's a masterpiece like never seen before on this site!

YOU RULE!

Amazing!!

I must say it again...

Amazing!!!

What a ride. It's unbelievable how much action you crammed into that small place. And then to have room over for those threes in one corner is just too much. What an amazing puzzle work this must have been to put together. And to combine it with such lovely custom supports that looks just totally realistic.
The ride had so many good elements in it and they just kept on coming at you until the last end turn.
We hade a coaster in the local amusement park, Liseberg, called Hang-Over (It was the first ever Invertigo ride by Vekoma). It used as much ground area as this ride and only had a cobra roll and a loop connected to a double lift tower. What a waste of space that was compared to this. The rollercoaster companies are nuts if they don't chase you guys down and offer royalties to build this ride for real.
And after treating us all with this amazing ride you add to it all by building a town around it. Fantastic! What's next? Cars and people? I can't think of how anyone can top this.
You guys are from now on gods in my eyes and I will worship you [worship]!

Keep up the amazing work you do. I just can't wait to see what you will be up to next!

T: I don't really want to go into it in too much detail. Sure it pumped a bit, but it was NOT bumpy. I don't know what all of you people are seeing, but you need to go re-ride.

A: Amazing. Really was the most intense steelie I've ever seen.

O: Do I really need to elaborate on the awesomeness of the inverted traveling coaster idea with the amazing 3D work.

Bottom line: This was smoother than 95% of the coasters on this site.

T: Amazing. the track was not perfectly smooth and did have some bumps. For those who rate down for it please note that real portable coasters like these are very rough rides, and this was by no means rough. The gs were all great, too. The positive gs were perfectly okay, they just make the ride better and more and intense, and the lateral gs were kept under control beautifully. Perfect score here.

A: More loopers should take a lesson from this...AIRTIME! The airtime on this ride really made the adrenaline rating go up since a lot of people forget that airtime is what every coaster needs, and it made the coaster so much more intense. The postive gs also added to the score in this category, with all the gs in the inversions and the compactness of the ride, it was one intense looper. The pacing was great also, I found no part that let up one bit, and I love how disorienting this coaster was flying through the inversions with all those gs and being twisted through the supports. Perfect adrenaline, except I took off .5 because there was a great opportunity for airtime on a hill that you had, yet it provided only positive gs.

O: Awesome layout! The airtime hills were great to have on a looper and the compactness of the layout also added a lot of points to this category. Outstanding 3ds work, too.

I also agree with what WWS said for this one. The track was great but really for me was not overly exciting. To me it really just seemed like inversion followed by inversion then a helix or something. As as said there was one or two large bumps in the track, noteably after the MCBR. I havnt got much else to say that WWS hasnt already

I found this ride to be pretty good. I however did not find it to be completely thrilling. It's all nice and cool that it's compact but the pacing of the ride just did not make it feel for me thrilling. it lacked adrenaline. Also some parts were rather rough, one major instance is the drop off the first major MCB in the middle of the ride. The environment was nice, unrealistic to place a coaster in a neighborhood surrounded by houses/apartments around the coaster but it's possible. Would be too loud for the neighbors to sleep, be awake in. Anyway, the ride overall was good, it needs a bit more smoothing in my opinion and also some more adrenaline for the time spent on the creation of this coaster.

Here's what I liked
-constantly banks away from the riders' feet so that you can't see the track, like Batman the Ride.
-banks and elements become more compact towards the end to compensate for slower speed, so as not to lose excitement
-very compact design
-high capacity
-spotlights were a nice touch
Here's what I didn't like:
-the environment (sky)..felt it was too mushy...it could have been both dark and distinct.

Overall this was a great ride because it manages to not lose the "rush" while capitalizing on what makes a great suspended coaster (the constant turning away from the feet, drawn out banks. The buildings were a nice touch to emphasize the changes in direction.

Thats coaster was near to perfect. Although i spotted some g forces but didnt really affect the score. This coaster was really compact. If you can get a coaster more compact than that, give me a call. I would love to ride this coaster in a travelling fair. What can i say? Get the two best coaster makers together and you got a great team. Thanxs for the coaster.
