I think it may just be the groupings of words that we see. We're probably used to certain letters being together despite the sound they make or the order that they are in.

That occurs because, as a fluent English speaker, when reading you only really notice the first/last letter and the relative length of the word. It helps you read faster and is also somewhat responsible when you don't notice typos when proofreading. Basically, the human mind is really powerful when it comes to basic problem solving!
